Networking isn’t about “collecting contacts.” It’s about building trust quickly and making it easy for someone to say yes to staying connected.
Here are 10 mistakes we see the most — and what to do instead.
1) Not following up within 24–48 hours
If someone has to remember you, you’ve already lost momentum. Send a short follow-up with context: where you met + a specific detail you discussed.
2) Making it hard to save your details
If your name/role/company isn’t instantly shareable, you’re adding friction. Use NFC or a QR so people can save your profile in one tap.
3) Talking more than you listen
Aim for a 60/40 rule: ask two questions before you pitch.
4) Asking for favors too soon
Start with value: share a link, a contact, or a useful resource.
5) No clear next step
End with one action: “Want to connect on LinkedIn?” or “Can I send you the doc?”
